I have a hard time writing negatively about Andrea as a Supervisor, because I like her as a person. So, I feel bad telling you all why I'm not supporting her.
- It's because I've watched her repeatedly treat county staff badly.
- It's because she treats her staff aides like garbage (she's now on her 11th in 3 years). I've heard this directly from several of her staff aides, and they all tell the same stories.
- It's because she is often unprepared for meetings.
- It's because she blames her other job for the fact that she is unprepared.
- It's because she voted against Ches. Bay. (Cliff probably would have too, but it's a real departure for Andrea), and she left CBPO supporters in the cold.
- It's because she really doesn't have the time or the temperament for the job, she knows it, she declares it from the dais, and yet she's running for it again.
In my opinion, Cliff is the only candidate in the Broad Run race who is both qualified for and capable of doing the job.
Great post Mrs. Miller. McGimsey lost my support when she decided to vote against protecting our streams. I didn't know about the problems she had with her staff aides, but that's very alarming.
ReplyDeleteAs I said in my TC post linking to this - ouch! But unfortunately, all too true. She is unfit for public office.
ReplyDeleteIf you abused your family like Liz says McG has to her aids the police would come and arrest you. Perhaps the county DA needs to look into McG's abusive behavior and file charges. McG's abusive behavior is beyond belief. McG needs serious help.
ReplyDeleteLI she is not only not fit for office she is a very mentally sick person. I believe Liz is telling the truth. And the Oatlands people have put her in charge over there. Well hopefully the Oatlands people will have a investigation
Having witnessed the behavior, I am truly surprised that the County hasn't faced a lawsuit yet. HR KNOWS about this behavior!! will any of her future Aides need to form a Union in order to get fair and equal treatment on the job (yes, I know they can't)? As a taxpayer, I certainly don 't want my money used to pay for such abuse of power. The LCDC members also know about this, yet they screwed the county with a redistricting plan created especally for her and will endorse her...??? I thought Dems were concerned about fair treatment and human rights. This makes no sense!
ReplyDeleteThank you for exposing the absolute abusive behavior of Andrea McGimsey. If this were just a couple of incidents, one could just say she was having a tough time, etc. But this is YEARS of abuse of aides and county staff.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, it appears McGimsey does need serious help. One day she will tell staff or her aides to do x and then when they do x, she yells at them for doing it! It is literally opposite answers to the same question. She even yelled at an aide for not telling her what clothes to wear to an event!
Someone in the LCDC please do something.
Well, at least she doesn't legislate badly when it comes to county staff. Stevens, on the other hand, voted to support legislation that would allow the county to renege on its promise to fund employee retirement contributions. That certainly goes against the Democratic ideal of fairness, and could have affected many more than this alleged "abuse." (Not to mention Stevens' embarrassing public tantrums.) My observation is that McGimsey has been a great supervisor, and absent any compelling facts that go beyond hurt feelings, she will have my support in the upcoming election.
ReplyDeleteDear MillerTime, taking a policy position is different than abusing human beings.
ReplyDeleteMillerTime is incorrect. I have opposed all legislation that would jeopardize county contributions to staff retirement plans.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Stevens Miller needs to review his vote on 3/23/2011. Please don't create a blog entry to personally attack me now.
ReplyDeleteMiller Time ...Mr. Miller has NEVER attacked his employees or treated anyone with anywhere near the utter and complete disrespect with which Ms. McGimesy treats, not only her aides and staff, but also her constituents. Why do you think she didn't want to run in her previous district???? She doesn't return phone calls, answer inquiries, or really prepare for any meeting. Even when she was unemployed, she was not prepared. She is a pseudo- environmentalist, ruining the reputation of true environmentalists, and shold not be running for office again. She talks badly of other supervisors and candidates, and warns her new aides not to "trust" them. I wonder how the taxpayers feel knowing that she wasted their money by ordering county staff find her apartment, negotiate it's terms, and move her - TWICE?
ReplyDeleteAgain, MillerTime is mistaken. Voting to convert a five-percent VRS contribution into direct salary merely gives Plan 1 county employees control over a part of their compensation, which they can use to invest in their retirement plans, or keep as income, at their choice.
ReplyDelete(Almost no one but county staff knew what that vote meant, much less cared. If you are a county employee, MillerTime, and feel you have lost something by virtue of that vote, I urge you to contact me by phone at 571-291-1478. I'll take your call in confidence and I promise not to discuss it with anyone else. I'd like to be sure you know what really happened. Some e-mail I got after that vote from other county employees suggests that someone briefly distributed some false information about it, apparently in an attempt to discredit me. Please call.)
People spreading lies about you in an attempt to destory your reputation? Sounds like we have some of the same enemies. I see they're making a nice attempt at diversion, however. McGimsey is unstable and unfit for office - and all of this, while damaging, is completely true. None of this extraneous noise about Miller is going to change that.
ReplyDeleteFrom what it appears, Mr. Miller has been one of the individuals who have tried to help Ms. McGimsey. However, she has refused to acknowledge any problems or misbehavior on her part. The pattern with McGimsey seems to be try to help her, she rejects any responsibility for her behavior, then she cuts off or punishes that individual.
ReplyDeletePeople have given up trying to help her and it seems this post and exposing her behavior is the only way left to get her to accept responsibility and stop abusing County staff, aides, and her constituents. She does seem unfit for public office.
Here’s an example of McGimsey’s behavior. A couple years ago the Finance and Public Safety committees for the BOS had a joint meeting. McGimsey served on the Public Safety cmte, but not the Finance cmte, so she was not accustomed to meeting during the day, as the Finance cmte does. Throughout that meeting she kept announcing (like a 15 year old annoyed at her parents) how she really did not have time to stay and that the agenda should be rearranged to fit her schedule. Supervisor Jim Burton, the Chairman of that committee, said the agenda would stay the same. She stood up, shoved her chair back, hitting a staff person with it (which she did not even notice), and stormed out.
ReplyDeleteIs it true that McGimsey used County resources (staff) to obtain an apartment, not once but twice?
ReplyDeleteI have also heard that McGimsey ordered her aides to; pick up her dry cleaning, feed her cats, collect her mail and do other personal errands on the County dime. If there is any truth to these rumors, as a tax payer a believe a thorough audit of McGimsey's expense reports are in order.
Aside from McGimsey's inter-personal skills, didn't she sign an "Ethics Pledge" and if she miss used County resources for personal gain...I think we have a bigger problem that McGimsey's mental status.
A school board member's wife worked for McG, was treated like crap, and then McG blasted her to a perspective employer (should the county face a lawasuit because McG did more than employment verification?), and also blasts the school board member to his constituents (should McG be kicked out of the LCDC for openly working against D candidates???). McG was abusing an aide while she was undergoing cancer treatment and that aide quit, was escorted out of the building under McG's instructions, only to be hired the next day by Burke. A D candidate's daughter was an aide and quit (she won't say why - but we all know), and then McG was blasting him to his constituents. Again, has she been asked to resign the LCDC???? And then there's the whole abusing all the other aides thing -- including making her current aide take the fall for her to constituents because she doesn't call them back. McG seems to have more issues and is more abusive to women than to men -- she likes to make them cry. In fact, other aides keep a box of kleenex especially for McG's aides, and they refuse to call new aides by their real names for fear they'll get attached just in time for them to quit. This is nothing new, obviously, when the other aides are taking bets on how long the new aides will last. How on earth has the county allowed this to go on for so long, and avoided a lawsuit?
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments, funny how a positive post generates few if any, but negative ones get tons!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else noticed that all of a sudden Andrea is in favor of fixing up the "funnel" traffic in what is currently the Dulles district? For the last several years, she has voted against most items that offered improvements in that area (Broad Run crossings, etc.)
Liz two very temporary easy fixes. A very long entrance or merge lanes both at Pacific and LCP to waxpool with yield signs. I can't believe those lanes were taken out when waxpool was widened. Especially at pacific and waxpool.
ReplyDeleteAnd excellent on calling out McG the way she really is.
And as far as negative post generating so many replies. Well people are fed up here and the good life people moved here for well it is not happening for way too many people. And nobody has any solutions to solve the transportation and economic development here in our kids lifetimes. Why would any major company want to move to the one of the highest priced work forces in the country, horrible transportation with no major solutions in site. No major existing first class office space to move into when there is available space close in. Including several major spec buildings going to be built in tysons next year. The rail will be long finished to reston before and if it is ever built here. And may even make several of loudouns roads become the new waxpool like shellhorn could turn into. And overpriced housing and salaries here compared to Texas and other places. You can live in Texas a lot better on much less money. And people wonder why Texas has the best economy in the USA. ANd oil is only a small part of it. Texas is major in high tech of all kinds. The texas medical center in Houston is considered one of the best in the world.
Loudoun and the DC area needs to learn a few things and not be so dependent on the government.
This does not bode well for Loudouns future in our kids lifetime. Especially with cutting the government here over the next years. It will get harder for this area to maintain high salaries and high prices in almost everything.
And lastly if anyone thinks the rail is going to be our savior out here is in for a major surprise. No decent road system existing or proposed to get to it. The lions share of all economic development will go to tysons and reston.
Anyway I am getting off topic. so I will shut up :-)
And I will add McG represents eveything to the public that is bad. ANd why the public gets mad at politics. I saw starting out in Texas the big heads local politicians can get. McG's story here reminds me of those days. There was a politician being in office for too many years. Bob Eckles Sr who a builder friend of mine was building his ranch house in another county. Fine and good except Bob Eckels must of thought the county road equipment in the county represented was at his disposal to build this very very very driveway. Well my builder friend John Urbani told us all about this and quit building his house and in a matter of months Ekles was headed for jail And actually Ekles finally did his district some good, he died of a heart attacked just before he was supposed to go to jail. Saved the taxpayers a ton of money not have to house him in jail
ReplyDeleteNow look at McG and if all that is said about her is true like have her aids move and her pick up her laundry etc. She has a good chance Like Eckles going to jail much less just resigning and not running for re-election. This needs to be investigated. And like Eckels McG might be too far gone and does not think she has gone too far and possibly broke the law and her abuse of power.
I find it fascinating (telling?) that no one has come on here to refute these claims, especially the staff aides thing.
ReplyDeleteCan't refute the truth.
ReplyDeleteHeard a Caucus call went out -- is it valid if it doesn't get sent to ALL members? Didn't Turner remove others from the mail list? Did THEY ALL get the call????? OOPS!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know about that, as I'm not a member in any case.
