That
Ron Speakman, who lost the LCRC endorsement to
Mike Chapman a couple of weeks ago, will be seeking the LCDC endorsement at tomorrow night's meeting.
I don't know if this rumor is true.
[Rumor confirmed. It's on the agenda for tonight.]
I don't know what the LCDC would do if it is true.
All I know is Loudoun County never ceases to be an amusing place for the political junky.
Wow, I wonder what this Tea Partier will have to say to rally the crowd.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you ask him about his 2007 attempt to run as Sheriff in Fauquier County and how he didn't meet the residency standards over there. Same questions linger here for Loudoun.
Also ask him about his fake Deputy Badge he had for Fauquier County.
On second thought where is this "show" going to be and what time is it? This could be worth watching.
Satchmo, I won't be there. But the LCDC meetings are open to the public. It's Thursday, August 4, at Tolbert Elementary, 690 Potomac Station Dr., Leesburg, VA 20176 at 7:00 PM.
ReplyDeleteThere is generally food at 6:30.
If you go, report back!
If one is not a member and indulges in the snacks, I think a donation would be appropriate. Stealing someone's candidate magnet off their car may be acceptable as an "in-kind."
ReplyDeleteI heard this rumor too from a substantive source.
ReplyDeleteLCDC snacks are provided gratis for attendees - campaign magnets are gratis only if given to you from a candidate --- and I believe it is illegal to steal one off a car!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure his aggressive illegal immigration enforcement plans and support for the castle doctrine will really resonate with the LCDC!
ReplyDeleteGuessing that Bob Moses will push to bring Speakmam aboard as he did with Bob Ohneiser a few years ago. The Dems are just the non Republicsn tent tnese days, standing for nothing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the most loyal Dems are Republicans who got screwed by their own party (ex: Bob O...who happens to be one of the best SB members the county has had). If Speakman wants to become a D and signs the pledge of membership, then it will REALLY be interesting to see what happens. If it's just an endorsement he's seeking, then it's a definite no-brainer.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous of August 4, 2011 5:19 AM, it's rather more complex than that. One doesn't become an LCDC member via a pledge. One is either elected by the county's Democratic electorate at the bi-annual reorganization, or else one is voted in as a member upon motion by a majority of a quorum at the meeting following one's nomination for membership. I am not at all sure Mr. Speakman could obtain that majority, though the only person in my own experience ever to fail to receive 100% support was, in fact, my good friend Bob Oh.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, one does not have to be an LCDC member to receive the Democratic nomination, nor does being an LCDC member necessarily imply one will receive the Democratic nomination, even if one is unopposed for it. That's because, as a protective measure against candidates of dubious commitment, the committee has the power to choose not to run a nominee in a given county race at all. (I'm given to understand that the current chairman has been advised that he has the authority to declare "no candidate" all on his own, but he's been getting a lot of really bad legal advice of late: DPVA Plan Section 12.5 makes it clear that the committee, not the chairman, does this at one of its meetings.)
BTW, what is it with all the anonymous posts here? Liz always posts under her name. So do I. It's never cost us anything too dear to pay.
ReplyDeleteCome join us in the bright light you guys! Only those ashamed of what they're doing tend to skulk about in shadows.
I will respectfully disagree with my husband on the issue of anonymity. As my policy states, "Anonymous commenting is fine, though I prefer signed comments."
ReplyDeleteI do, however, respectfully request that at least you choose a screen name. Saying, "Anonymous of August 4, 2011 5:19 AM" to address a remark back to you is really quite tiresome.
And, Anonymous @ August 3, 2011 6:33 PM, if you do happen to see anyone with our missing bumper magnet in the lot at Tolbert tonight, would you kindly confront the person who has it?
Yes, Liz! I will steal it back for you -- it will then be right back where it started!
ReplyDeleteNo way will he get the LCDC endorsement - period.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, Ashburn34half, this is Loudoun, ANYTHING can happen!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see Stevens Miller be proud of what he says, since I'm certain many of his comments will be brought to light in his upcoming bid for the state house. As for Speakman, he only spoke to the LCDC to ask whether they would add him to the agenda (after winning his party's nomination) to allow him to ask LCDC members to support his effort to defeat Steve Simpson. He was never on the agenda to seek their party's nomination, and his optimistic request proved moot given the outcome of the convention.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 12:54 AM, my husband isn't running for anything. You may not have gotten that memo, but he announced it in April.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 12:54 AM, it looks like your candidate is a loose cannon. Did he go off script without asking his handlers first? Your attempt to cover this up does not exactly comport with the facts on the ground, as they say. But it's interesting that you guys find those facts damaging.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ August 5, 2011 12:54 AM: Unless you know something about my political future that I don't, I don't have an "upcoming bid for the state house." However, even if I did, my past comments wouldn't worry me. We've all said things we wish later we either hadn't said, or else had said a different way. Voters know that. The difference between a stand-up kind of person and a low-life is not in whether they ever say anything they regret, but in whether they own up to it when they do. Stand-up kind of people have names, aren't afraid to be seen or heard, and have the class to admit it when they realize they were wrong. Low-lifes, on the other hand, like to avoid responsibility, which is why they hide what they do, looking around first to see that no one's watching, and staying in the shadows.
