A picture's worth a thousand words

  1. Those are pretty good, though Ms. Wexton's is a bit wordy. I have laid out a counter-example on the slab at my blog.

  2. Is that really Cliff's sign??? It's almost like one big inside joke about the ridiculous shape of the district - if that's what he was shooting for it works great! The shape of that ridiculuos Save McGimsey Attempt district should be more than enough to knock her out of contention, notwithstanding all of the aide abuse, insider deals, waste of county funds, clueless behavior on the dais, etc.

  3. LI, that was exactly what he was shooting for.

  4. Yup, that is what Cliff wants. To show that the "amoeba" district is a reason to vote for a new representative.

I fought against it, but I lost.

Cliff is fighting because of it.

    That's why I hope he'll win.

  5. I think the big question is can we really take candidates that use Comic Sans seriously? :)

  6. Sheesh. Anonymous 9/25/11 9:53 AM, do you remember the "B.C." strip described here? You'd have gotten a kick out of it.

  7. for anonymous and others, i recommend Just My Type: A Book About Fonts. although i suspect anon might have just read it. :)

when i first saw keirce's sign, not having the background info, the image struck me as a weird rendition of someone running. cool. but no, it is the shape of the re-formulated district. weird, but that's how it is. go, cliff.

  8. I call the shape "the running man". Most others call it "the amoeba"

  9. On a lot of the maps that county staff prepared for the BOS before the final vote on the new districts, that one was a kind of rosy color. Critics took to calling it "the starfish." Since that color was never officially part of it, and we see it in all kinds of shades, patterns, and whatnot now, it looks less like a starfish than it did at the time. I think Scott York may have been the first to call it "the amoeba." Others have told me the top part looks like the head of a seahorse, but seahorses don't have legs.

There really is no good name for it, but it sure says a lot that no one seems at ease when calling it "Broad Run."

  10. Onheiser is not running for re-election. He is running for his first term for the "At-Large" seat. Very disingenuous of him, but what else is new with him.

Additionally, his signs do not have the required source information. But hey no big deal, just pointing it out as insight into his character.

  11. Hey, BlackOut, the point about the "paid for and authorized by" is valid, and I will point it out to him.

The re-elect part is also a good point, though I admit I'm giving him a pass on that since he's recycling his material from the last election because he doesn't take donations and he's pledged to spend less than $1K.

Which is also an insight into his character.
