Passing the baton
It may surprise you to hear it, but lots of people are hesitant about canvassing. They're nervous that people will react negatively to them, that they'll have doors slammed in their faces. That's where the Doorbell Queen excels. I make canvassing look fun and easy. Because to me, it IS fun and easy.
This year, I've taken several first-time canvassers out with me. And I saw them, in the course of a couple of hours, go from being hesitant and nervous, to doing doors with verve and elan. I love hearing about father-daughter canvassing competitions. I love hearing from my co-workers all over the district that Cliff Keirce was at their doors. I love hearing from Jennifer Wexton that a 200-door day is becoming the norm for her.
And I especially love pictures like this:
That's Cliff's wife and daughter at Mill Run Elementary's Back to School Night. Cliff's been having such a good time, that they had to join in!
I love seeing that my love of canvassing is infectious. There is no cure for the love of doors.

If I ran the circus
A friend asked me, if I could rearrange the Loudoun County BOS races to suit myself, what would my dream ticket be? Caveats: that I cannot change the Republican line up, and that I can't put my husband into any race*.
Now, it so happens that I've thought about exactly this question quite a bit and here is how I would change things, if I could.
*I love having him home for dinner most nights. Heck, I love being home for dinner most nights. I'm pretty sure he'll run for something again someday, but it won't be this year or next year.
Now, it so happens that I've thought about exactly this question quite a bit and here is how I would change things, if I could.
- Burton (I) runs for Chair. Bellanca (D) runs for Blue Ridge. I think this makes both races much more likely to be won by these guys.
- McGimsey (D) runs for Algonkian, leaving Keirce (I) to sweep Broad Run. Let's face it, Pierce (D) is not going to win against Volpe (R), but McGimsey might have a chance.
- Dulles. I've got two names in mind. Neither of them is running. That pisses me off. 'Nuff said.
- I am perfectly satisfied with the candidates in Ashburn and Sterling. You guys make me happy. Keep it up.
- Leesburg and Catoctin are farther off my beat. I'm sure that the current candidates will do fine.

York endorses Delgaudio, Plowman, others
When he goes over to the dark side, he really goes over to the dark side. How can the same guy who endorsed Stevens endorse Delgaudio?
Needless to say, this year I'm certainly not on team York.
Because I'm on team Nevarez, team Wexton, team Ronis, and team Keirce.
I'm on team "best person for the job", and anyone who thinks that Delgaudio or Plowman or Buona or Williams is the best person? Well that guy can't be such a great person himself.
Sorry, Scott. You lost me.

A look at Valdis Ronis's opponent
Remember when I did that resolution for Loudoun Times Mirror? Well Ralph Buona did one too. His is the unfortunate still-frame that YouTube used.
Uh...yeah. Ralph Buona's creepy eyes? Yet another reason, if you needed one, to vote for Valdis Ronis.

Now THAT's what I'm talking about
Cliff knocked 151 doors yesterday.
Jennifer Wexton's been out every day (though she needs to post about it more!)
Shanyn Ronis is wearing her shoes out.
I'm so proud of my canvassing proteges! Keep it up!

Great turnout for Valdis Ronis's birthday party!
There were people I'd never met before as well as the usual suspects, and two elected officials. He's got a lot of enthusiastic support!
Valdis's campaign is getting off to a terrific start!!

Did doors with Shanyn Ronis, Valdis Ronis's daughter!
She is an awesome walker. Energetic. Enthusiastic. We were out for over 2 hours, did a TON of doors. It feels like July out there. All you other canvassers, stay hydrated!
In case I haven't mentioned it before, I'm endorsing Valdis Ronis for Supervisor from the new Ashburn District. Tomorrow's a fund-raiser for him, come on out and meet him!
