You know, as funny as it is to keep revisiting that notion, it is only as funny as it is because it is so clearly ridiculous. With Liz (who is a NARAL board member) making videos like this, and me marching in CWA picket lines, you'd like to think there'd come a time when the LCDC leadership that floated this absurd lie would calm down, think about what's best for the Democratic party's interests, and consider ways to work with us on the races where we agree.
Heck, I've even been granted permission to top-post at the pre-eminent pro-Republican blog in Loudoun county (where I helped announce Joy Maloney's write-in candidacy for school board today). Do any of LCDC's leaders even approach me about how we can use that to get messages out for our candidates we both support? They certainly could.
But they don't. They just hunker down, covering their ears, shutting their eyes, and ignoring how effective we can be (and are being) in helping decent, electable, pro-choice candidates like Shawn Mitchell.
NARAL had a reception/fund-raiser at the inestimable John Flannery's Leesburg office last night. I was delighted to see my fellow Democratic elected, Senator Mark Herring, there. I was equally delighted to see him introduce future-Senator Shawn Mitchell, who spoke fearlessly of his commitment to keeping government's hands off of a woman's right to decide her own health-care and reproductive choices. A lot of other faces in the room were also cheering for me to see.
But I saw no LCDC leaders there. Not one.
You have a great candidate, and a second chance to beat Dick Black. You have electeds and advocates fighting this part of the battle for you and doing it pretty damned well.
Hey, what's a republican agent doing in a video done by the Democratic Party of Virginia? Something's fishy here!
